Time to digitize VHS!

For a while now I have been looking for a way to convert my VHS tapes to DVDs and other digital formats. Some digital camcorders have transcoders built into them for this process, mind doesn't have I didn't feel like buying a new one that did.

Recently I saw in a Bed, Bath, and Beyond ad, a device to transfer VHS tapes to a computer. It is called "VCR2PC" and works pretty well. One of the down sides is the transfer is done in real time, so if the video you're transferring is 2 hours long, it will take 2 hours to transfer it. The other down side is that it only works with Windows XP/Vista, but through the use of VMWare Fusion and a copy of XP, I was able to use my Macbook Pro to do the transfer.

Hi - I'm trying to do the same thing, but the EZ VHS app keeps telling me there's no device connected or it is in use by another application. VMWare Fusion is saying the Ion VCR2PC device is definitely there and recognized, though. I installed all the drivers onto XP and updated the s/w, and have restarted XP several times, but each time the EZ VHS capture app won't recognize the hardware. Was there anything specific you did or did you have any issues doing this to make it work? Many thanks. Niilo.

Sorry for the late reply, I don't check my blog everyday for comments.

XP was working with it for a while, then all of a sudden I had the same problem as you. When I installed Vista, I never had a problem. Try Vista. Or another thing you can try is using Boot Camp to run XP naively.
