Google Chrome review

Wanting to give Google Chrome a thorough test, I decided to make it my default browser in October of 2010. It has continued to be the sole browser I used until today, when I decided to switch back to Mozilla Firefox.

There were some things I liked, and most things I didn't like about Chrome. Most notably was how long it took to load websites. With some sites, Chrome was on par with Firefox (a couple of Google-owned sites even loaded a fraction faster); however most sites loaded slower. Especially the sites I tend visit the most (such as engadget.com), these sites take half as long to load in Firefox. Making Google's claim that Chrome is faster, seem like a fable.

Speed aside, there were things about Chrome that I did like. The extensions (such as Google Reader, Twitter, Web Developer, etc.) all featured smooth animation, and good integration. Another thing I like is that the Sync feature is built-in, whilist it's a separate plug-in in Firefox 3.6 (however, it IS built into Firefox 4.0 Beta).

Google Chrome seems like an overall solid web browser, and I will continue to use it from time-to-time. However, my browser of choice remains to be Mozilla Firefox.
